An international research team has characterised, in the brain of foetuses, the cell populations responsible for the formation of blood vessels in the prenatal human brain. They are groups of endothelial and mural cells that line the cerebral vasculature in the second trimester of pregnancy. Led by the University of San Francisco, the work has the participation of the Cavanilles Institute of the University of Valencia-CIBERNED, as well as the collaboration of the Health Research Institute (IIS) and the La Fe Hospital in Valencia.
The cities of Valencia, Castelló de la Plana, Alicante, Elche, Murcia and Cartagena celebrate the XIII European Researchers- Night coordinated under the project Mediterranean Researchers- Night Goes To School (Mednight GTS). The consortium, formed by 10 representative universitiesand entities of research and scientific dissemination of the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia, offers a program of activities for all audiences that takes place in the last weeks of September and will also have as a finishing touch September 29 and 30, and October 1, 2022. Mónica Giménez-Marqués, chemist and researcher at the Molecular Science Institute (ICMol), and Humberto Gracián Ferrón-Jiménez, palaeontologist and researcher at the Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (ICBiBE), have obtained two of the 60 Leonardo scholarships in its 2022 edition and in the modalities of Basic Sciences and Environmental and Earth Sciences, respectively.
The European project SUSTAIN, funded by Erasmus+ and involving the Polibienestar Research Institute of the Universitat de València, which involves secondary school students in research of sustainable landscapes, has been awarded the European Prize for Innovative Teaching 2022 by the European Commission.
Scientists from five Valencian research institutions will star this Tuesday, September 27 at the Valencia Fábrica de Hielo, in a monologue session on science as a prelude to the main activity of the Mediterranean Researchers- Night, which will be held on Friday, September 30 all over the world. The monologues will deal with topics such as microplastics in the human body, myths about the impact of cows on climate change, new ways of capturing C02, the need to invest in food science or the dangers of not knowing.
