Adolfo Rodríguez Eguren, a PhD candidate at the Universitat de Valčncia, has been recognized in the fourth edition of the #HiloTesis science communication contest organized by Crue Universidades Espańolas. His award-winning thread explores how regenerative medicine can address infertility issues in women. The thread is part of his thesis research focusing on uterine pathologies such as Asherman syndrome and endometrial atrophy (SA/AE), conditions that prevent embryo implantation in the uterus and thus, pregnancy.
The winning thread can be viewed here .
Adolfo Rodríguez studied Biotechnology at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (Seville) and obtained his master’s degree in Biotechnology of Assisted Human Reproduction from the Universitat de Valčncia. His doctoral thesis was conducted at the IVI Foundation in collaboration with La Fe Health Research Institute, under a FPU contract. During his predoctoral stage, he completed a research stay at Yale University (USA), where he studied ovarian aging models with a prestigious Fulbright scholarship. He is currently the Head of Regenerative and Cellular Medicine Projects at a company.
Adolfo Rodríguez has experience in assisted reproduction clinics and research, having worked at CNIC and CABD, where he investigated cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, respectively. He has also contributed to teaching in the Departments of Pediatrics, Gynecology, and Obstetrics at the Universitat de Valčncia, and the Department of Biotechnology at the Universidad de Alicante.
In his thesis project, Adolfo RodríguezRodríguez specifically investigated the benefits of regenerative factors and umbilical cord platelet-rich plasma, both integrated into hydrogels, to treat SA and AE. Both treatments demonstrated effectiveness in regenerating uterine tissue and restoring fertility in mouse models. The latest therapy, currently under clinical investigation, could offer new treatment options for women facing fertility problems due to these conditions. For this project, Rodríguez Eguren received an institutional recognition in March from the Conselleria de Sanidad de la Comunitat Valenciana for contributing to gender equality.
The fourth edition of #HiloTesis saw participation from 362 individuals from 49 Spanish universities, who published their work between June 1 and June 15 on X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Threads, and Mastodon to make university research accessible to the public. Each of the six winners will receive a ¤500 prize, sponsored for the second consecutive year by the Fundación Larramendi. The evaluation involved 30 individuals from the science communication units of various universities.
