In the 2022-2023 edition, 105 members of the UB community took part in the session.

Innovation Day (i-Day) is an initiative of the European organisation EIT Health that calls on university students to present projects in the field of health and sustainability based on entrepreneurship and innovation. The University of Barcelona participates through StartUB! , along with 33 European centres that also organise their own sessions.

In the 2022-2023 edition, 105 members of the UB community took part in the session, including students, administrative and service staff and teaching and research staff from different academic areas. This year’s themes, proposed by the collaborating companies, were: "How to help communities reduce loneliness", by the Red Cross; "How to promote dental health in developing countries", by Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, and "How to develop sustainable and disruptive packaging", by Carinsa.

The first prize went to the group 4 Sonrisas, which has responded to the theme of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu: they propose using tree roots —such as the baobab—to prevent tooth decay, without the need to use toothbrushes or toothpaste. Its four members (Mariana Valenzuela, Rebecca Wawatschek, Tévy Igonidec and Eduardo Martínez Mariño) are students on the master’s degree in Creation and Management of Innovative and Technology-Based Companies at the UB, and have won 500 euros and the chance to take part in the European Winners’ Event (including travel and accommodation), which will take place in Vienna on 24 and 25 November.

The second winning proposal, which won 300 euros, responded to the Red Cross approach: it proposes to create a platform with interactive games that allow members of the same community to get to know each other better.

Finally, the third prize, worth 200 euros, went to a solution to the Carinsa challenge: the proposal is to track packaging using blockchain technologies and thus ensure its recycling.
