Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence--a seal that was awarded in 2011.

The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 27 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.

IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 30 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the "Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya" (CERCA).

 IRB Barcelona is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Cell Division Laboratory, led by Dr. Cayetano Gonzalez ( ?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irbbarcelona.org%2Fes%2Fresearch%2Fcayetano-gonzalez&module=jobs&id=947" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irbbarcelona.org%2Fes%2Fresearch%2Fcayetano-gonzalez&module=jobs&id=947" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.irbbarcelona.org/es/research/cayetano-gonzalez ) as part of the project "Genetic and molecular dissection of the regulatory networks that control EWS-FLI oncogenic activities (EWS-FLIes)". The contract will be financed by the ’Project PID2021-124716OB-I00’, Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, 2021.

Ewing sarcoma is a common bone tumor in children and young adults. Ewing sarcoma is caused by an oncogene, EWS-FLI in most cases, which results from the fusion between the EWSR1 and FLI1 genes. EWS-FLI has different neomorphic functions that contribute to Ewing sarcoma oncogenesis. In this project, we will use Drosophila as model to carry out a genetic and molecular dissection of the regulatory networks that control EWS-FLI oncogenic activities.

We are searching for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with a strong background in Drosophila genetics, molecular cell biology, immunofluorescence microscopy, and transcriptomics and proteomics analysis. The successful candidate will be involved in the identification of the molecular networks involved in EWS-FLI oncogenic activities.

  • Performing experiments and data analysis
  • Data management and storage
  • Participate and make presentations in laboratory and departmental seminars
  • Write manuscripts together with other researchers


 

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:

Must Have - Required: 

- Experience:

  • The successful candidate must have extensive experience both in classical and molecular Drosophila genetics, in high-end immunofluorescence microscopy, transcriptomics and proteomics.
  • Experience in a competitive research environment.
  • One or more first-author publications in high impact international journals.


- Knowledge:

  • Cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, genetics, and epigenetics.
  • Thorough background on statistical data analysis.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).


- Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Data management and complex database organization.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative research team.


Desirable:

- Experience: Cell culture, Genomics, NGS sequencing, Bioinformatics.

Knowledge: Methods of chromatin accessibility ("Cut & RUN", etc )and immunoprecipitation.

- Skills: Programming and scripting, and biostatistical analysis.
