Descripción/Description:

In the framework of ALLIES Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) program, we are glad to offer a Two-Year Fellowship position in:

"Big Data analysis techniques applied to simulated data for the preparation of the space mission PLATO"

What we are looking for:

We are seeking innovative research proposals that explore Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) as a pioneering and breakthrough way to interpret observations by combining theoretical stellar models, stellar population models, and prescriptions for observational biases. The selected PostDoc will join a multidisciplinary research group between the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC ?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iaa.csic.es%2F&module=jobs&id=3191" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iaa.csic.es%2F&module=jobs&id=3191" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.iaa.csic.es/) y el Instituto de Ciencias de Espacio (ICE-CSIC ?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ice.csic.es%2F&module=jobs&id=3191" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ice.csic.es%2F&module=jobs&id=3191" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.ice.csic.es/ ).

Background in knowledge of AI principles, technics and previous works in this area will be taken in consideration.

Our problem:

PLATO is a space mission from the European Space Agency which is aimed to detect and characterize Earth analogs and their hosting stars. The mission will collect a huge amount of data, and there is the strong need to implement the stellar models and theoretical simulations in order to extract the information. The development of Artificial intelligence (AI) systems provide a unique opportunity to exploit both observations and models and push the current limits of our knowledge of stars and planets.

Javier Pascual, J.R. Rodón (IAA-CSIC, Granada, Spain), and Aldo Serenelli (ICE-CSIC, Barcelona, Spain) are joining efforts to implement a promising holistic approach where AI is used to extract the physical information both from observations and stellar models in preparation for the PLATO space mission, which will be launched at the end of 2026.

International collaborations and stages:

The proposal has been developed in collaboration with two international research groups, belonging to centres of excellence in astrophysical research: CAUP-Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (PT, https://www.astro.up.pt/ ); LESIA Paris Observatory (FR, ?url=https%3A%2F%2Flesia.obspm.fr%2F&module=jobs&id=3191" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=https%3A%2F%2Flesia.obspm.fr%2F&module=jobs&id=3191" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://lesia.obspm.fr/ ).

Short stages in these centres are planned for the ALLIED program postdocs.
