Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence--a seal that was awarded in 2011.

The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.

IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the "Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya" (CERCA).

We are searching for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to work on projects, analysing the biology of brown adipose cells with the aim of understanding the control of energy homeostasis in mouse mutant models.

The ideal candidate should have previous experience in metabolic analysis, and in the biology of brown adipose cells, including mitochondrial metabolism, autophagy, molecular, and cellular biology. She/he should have strong analytical skills, in addition to creativity, curiosity, enthusiasm, and ability to work in a team. The candidate will participate and perform the activities, and tasks operating in our laboratory.

The CMDMLab (Complex Metabolic Diseases and Mitochondria) is a strong interdisciplinary and international research team with unique expertise in the implications of mitochondrial dysfunction in the ethiopathogeny of disease.

This position will be co-funded with the support of La Caixa Fundation, by the project "Phospholipid biosynthesis and transport between endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria: understanding their essential role in liver disorders (reference: HR2021-00430)".

DUTIES: 

  • Participate in metabolic research projects in the group
  • Present and discuss research projects in the group and in the institute
  • Write manuscripts together with other researchers and the PI
  • Help to shape the project into a drug discovery initiative and to support implementing the project valorization actions


 

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:

Must Have - Required: 

  • PhD in Biomedicine,
  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge in Mitochondrial metabolism
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative research team
  • Business-oriented mind and with entrepreneurial spirit


Desirable:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in international teams.
  • Experience in mouse work.
  • Experience in mitochondrial - endoplasme reticulum contacts.


WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS:

  • Working conditions
    • Permanent Contract (científico-técnico) linked to the project "Phospholipid biosynthesis and transport between endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria: understanding their essential role in liver disorders (reference: HR2021-00430)", co-funded with the support of La Caixa Fundation. 
    • Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract. Employees receive the benefits of the Spanish Social Security system covering sickness, maternity/paternity leaves and injuries at work.
