Gustau Camps, awarded with the IEEE David Landgrebe Award 2024

Gustau Camps-Valls, professor of Electronic Engineering and researcher at UV’s Image Processing Laboratory (IPL), has been awarded the IEEE David Landgrebe Award 2024, one of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society’s (GRSS) highest awards for career achievement in the field of remote sensing image analysis.

The jury recognized Camps-Valls’ outstanding contributions in machine learning-based analysis of remotely sensed image data, including hyperspectral data. The award highlights Camps-Valls’ scientific excellence and also his contribution to high-level scientific-technical education and the promotion of machine learning in the earth science and remote sensing community.

The IEEE GRSS David Landgrebe Award is a lifetime achievement award in the field of remote sensing image analysis and is given for outstanding contributions in fields such as classification, image analysis, feature extraction, change detection, data fusion and data mining.

Gustau Camps is internationally recognized for his research and innovation in machine learning applied to remote sensing, having significantly advanced the field with his pioneering methodologies and having contributed to the training of future generations of researchers.

The award was presented at a ceremony held recently in Athens, where the professor dedicated the award to his research team and collaborators for their dedication and continued efforts.

The Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) is a technical entity of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), aimed at fostering its members’ engagement with society through science, engineering, applications and education in the field of geoscience and remote sensing. The IEEE has 430,000 members from 160 countries.
