New music proposals in Els Vespres d’Hivern

The Els Vespres d’Hivern are back. The UB brings back its support for emerging artists. Once again, culture and music meet in the heart of the UB: the concerts of this cycle, projects with personality and with a great artistic value, will take place in the Paranimph of the Historical Building, one of the most spectacular rooms in this city. We will enjoy the fresh scene of Flamenco Queer, the folk by the Irish Brigid Mae Power, simple songs by Maria Hein and the piano brought by Nil Ciuró, proposals that go over the folklore roots and update it with a feminist view.

The program is brought by the cooperative L’Afluent, which is also in charge of the artistic direction of Barcelona Acció Musical (BAM) during La Mercè. These concerts keep the risky, open and cross-sectional spirit of the cycle, whose success regarding attendance in previous editions makes it clear that it has become an unmissable date in the city, and it broadens its view with the incorporation of the content curator team.

The concerts, which are free, will take place on Fridays during February, in the evening. To book tickets, which will be given after January 20 in a gradual way and until maximum room capacity is reached, please visit the website of the cycle here.

COVID-19-related health measures will be updated and stated through the official channels of Els Vespres d’Hivern.

Concerts:

February 4. Flamenco Queer (invitations available afterJanuary 20). With traditional identity as the starting point, they claim the inclusivity of flamenco and remind us that, at the beginning of the 21st century, the queer, transvestite and flamenco community came together in Raval and Poble-sec.

February 11. Brigid Mae Power (invitations available after January 27). London-based Irish painter and singer-songwriter presents her third album, Head above the water, accompanied by the multi-instrumentist Peter Broderick, producer of the album.

February 11. Maria Hein (invitations available after February 3). This young woman from Felanitx debuts with Continent i contingut (Hidden Track Records), ten songs in which she accumulates thoughts, problems, doubts and certainties, as in a mug that starts to overflow and needs to let the water spill out.

February 25. Nil Ciuró (invitations available after February 10). Pianist, composer and producer who merges minimalism, contemporary music and experimentation. He celebrates the publication of the soulful Oversoul, edited by the Swedish label 1631 Recordings.
